ROC FRIESE POORT
ROC Friese Poort provides Vocational Education and Training for the youth and adults. We have locations in Dokkum, Drachten, Emmeloord, Leeuwarden, Sneek and Urk, so you can be sure there will always be a programme available near you. Our top priority at ROC Friese Poort is to give our students the best possible education. We offer superior supervision to ensure our students are able to develop optimally and earn diplomas that will make it easy for them to find jobs after their studies or that will facilitate transfer to a continuation course.
ROC Friese Poort is built on the basic foundation of cooperation. We believe our students can best fulfil their personal potential by bundling their strengths and sharing their knowledge and experience. The message we would like to convey to our target group is: Let’s share.
ROC FRIESE POORT BUSINESS COURSES
The recognised programmes, courses and training courses offered by ROC Friese Poort Business Courses facilitate the continuing development of adults to help them consolidate their position in the employment market. Adult students, as well as working staff from the corporate world can enrol for day or evening courses at ROC Friese Poort Business Courses at several registration moments every year. It is also possible, depending on the student’s background, to enrol for fasttrack courses. The training is offered at one of the ROC Friese Poort locations or at work. We work closely with the student to find the most suitable individual solution.
ROC Friese Poort is a reputable organisation that offers proven, sustainable and stable quality. It also offers a clear structure and excellent teaching. Our lecturers are known for their competence and expertise.
One of the key strengths of ROC Friese Poort is its small scale of operations. Every programme in each location has its own recognisable classrooms and practical spaces. This offers our students a consistently reliable learning environment.
We are completely open to the individual needs of each student at every level. We pay special attention to students that need additional support. And we create extra challenges for those students who demand more.
PREPARED FOR THE FUTURE
We cooperate with the business community, so we are aware of the future needs of the professional practice. Our teaching programmes are strengthened by the fact that our students work on suitable practical assignments that are provided by our business partners.
SAFEOur programmes have proven their worth through the consistently good results obtained by our students over the years. This makes ROC Friese Poort a highly reliable and stable educational institution.
HOME Our students feel at home very quickly at ROC Friese Poort. Our lecturers invest in getting to know their students on first name terms. The students study in an environment where they feel safe enough to be themselves.
The diversity of courses and extra choices makes each programme highly personal. The students are free to explore and discover their talents. They actively co-create their programmes in cooperation with their fellow students, lecturers and internship companies.
Our close cooperation with the business community enables us to optimally guide our students towards their future jobs.
VOCATIONAL EDUCATION AND TRAINING HAS FOUR EDUCATIONAL LEVELS:
> Level 1: Entry level training
> Level 2: Basic professional training
> Level 3: Vocational training
> Level 4: Middle management and specialist training
THE STUDENT CAN CHOOSE BETWEEN TWO LEARNING TRACKS AT EACH LEVEL:
SCHOOL AND INTERNSHIP (BOL): The students attend school (almost) every day and also do internships at companies or institutions during their studies.
WORKING AND LEARNING (BBL): The students work most of the week and also attend school one or two days a week.
FIELDS OF STUDY
Students at ROC Friese Poort can follow courses in administration, construction, infrastructure, economics, trade, art, culture, hospitality, ICT, media, technology, beauty therapy, maritime studies, supervision, security, care and welfare.
FOCUS ON THE PRACTICE
The education consists of assignments from the professional practice and classes that offer the student all the related knowledge and skills. Work-study locations and teaching companies play a major role in this process. The teaching programmes are an intense combination of courses in which Language and Mathematics, and courses in Career and Citizenship (LB) and Faith-based Development (LevO) have a clearly defined place. DEVELOPMENT TOWARDS INDEPENDENT LEARNING
The students at ROC Friese Poort follow a systematic learning curve to enable them to work and learn independently. At the beginning of the programme, the students enjoy close supervision, but this is systematically diminished as they progress. We also take the student’s own abilities into account. This is evident in, among other things, the extent to which the student is able to set his/her own goals, the degree to which the process is structured and the complexity of the assignments.
VARIATION IN WORK FORMS
The education is offered in a highly varied way. We use various work forms in which the students collaborate in many different cooperative forms. By varying the sizes of the groups, our students learn to work together, as well as independently.
ACTIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT
Our students learn in an active learning environment. The learning environment is true to life. Our students work in different types of spaces where they can make use of modern ICT systems. The learning environment is not only offered at school, as our students are also required to go out and do research through which they encounter a wide range of professional practices.
ROC Friese Poort prepares its students for an international society and employment market by, for example, making it possible for them to do their internships abroad. In addition, ROC Friese Poort also organises exchange projects and develops learning methods in cooperation with foreign partners. To promote internationalisation, ROC Friese Poort also maintains contact with several foreign partners in the European Union (EU) and outside.
ROC Friese Poort stands for innovation and sustainability: now and in the future. For that reason, we offer our students the necessary knowledge and facilities to understand innovation and sustainable technologies during their studies.
MORE THAN JUST STUDYING
STUDENTS WHO ATTEND ROC FRIESE POORT DO SO PRIMARILY TO OBTAIN A VOCATIONAL TRAINING. BUT GIVEN THE CHRISTIAN IDENTITY OF OUR SCHOOL, WE OBVIOUSLY WISH TO OFFER THEM MORE. FRIENDSHIP, RELIGIONS, FUTURE DREAMS AND MORE.
Besides the vocational training designed to prepare the student for a profession, we also offer the subjects, Career and Citizenship (LB) and Faithbased Development (LevO) in all our programmes. In some programmes, they consist of weekly lessons, but in others they are presented in the form of theme days and projects. The subjects challenge the students to think about their own visions on life and faith. We also delve more deeply into the values the students find important in life, and what they mean in their future professions. The students discuss this with their lecturers and fellow students. The following are a few examples of the kinds of themes we cover: education, friendship, religions and cultures, dealing with separation, professional ethics, norms and values, dealing with the earth in a sustainable way, future dreams and talents. The subject of Citizenship helps the students to contemplate on their place in society in the social, cultural, political and economic context.
TREATING ONE ANOTHER WITH RESPECT

Our college is a place where everyone is able to fulfil his or her potential and prepare for a job in the future.
